The 2006 Polaris WOW Relay is underway. It started Jan. 9 in St. John’s, NL, and ends in White Rock, BC, on March 7. To follow the relay and see photos, click on Daily Diaries below. The first WOW Relay in 2003 raised just over $175,000. The WOW Relay has since raised over $550,000 for breast cancer research, not including donations raised to date for the 2006 Relay!
We invite all of you to ride along with us as we travel through your province. Anyone may collect donations for the WOW Relay; for every $250 that you raise in donations, your name will be entered to win a drawing for a 2006 550 Classic donated by Polaris!
See you on the Trails!

- Hi Gisele
I followed with interest - and a great deal of pride - the progress of the WOW Relay as it wound its way across Canada. We were so disappointed here in Nova Scotia that we were only able to log several kilometers on the Polaris sleds due to the lack of snow, but we hope our fundraising efforts made up for our inability to ride. You did a wonderful job in organizing the entire event, and it was so nice to see that you were able to be there at the end of the Relay to welcome Herb and the BC girls as they wrapped up the event. If you ever find yourself in Nova Scotia, I hope you'll get in touch - it would be nice to meet you.
Again, thanks for allowing me to be a part of this great adventure in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. I'm anxiously awaiting the final fundraising total, as I've promised my donors I would communicate it to them at the end of the Relay. Everyone here in Pictou County has been so supportive of my efforts - I couldn't have done it without their support of this great cause.
Kind Regards, Barbara Curry Team NS
- Hi Ladies...
As you may have already heard, we had a great time with the WOW ride through Whitecourt on Friday Feb 24 & Saturday Feb 25, 2006.
We had 6 Women of Whitecourt (WOW) ride with the Alberta WOW Team along with TrialBoss Dale Gunderson & a few who others escorted with WOW team into Whitecourt where they were met by local newspaper and radio reporters.... The ladies and Herb were interviewed and got alot of play time on the radio...great exposure for the WOW Ride.
Our banquet to honor our WOW friends on Friday was very well attended (about 35 - 40 people) including Town Mayor, County Deputy Reeve, and Yellowhead MP. The WOW team was given several gifts, plaques, prizes, etc.... for their efforts and spirit of volunteerism.
We raised $5732.00...and we had fun with our friends from Valleyview as we had some friendly competition going on to raise WOW pledges.
Looking forward to WOW 2007 !
Thanks again for allowing us to participate.
Dan Guenette Vice President Whitecourt Trailblazers Snowmobile Club
Francine
- Just a short note to thank you, Polaris Industries and the other sponsors of the 2006 WOW Relay for choosing me as one of the designated riders for this year's relay.
Since our portion of the relay, I've been approached by several people inquiring as to how the PEI leg of the relay turned out since we were lacking snow and...would I do it again? My answer is consistently: we had a great time, laughed a lot (poor Herb can attest to that!), and raised money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - the snowmobiling would have just been an added bonus and, YES, I would definitely do it again!
This, for me, was definitely an experience of a lifetime and one I will remember for many years to come.
When the team met in October, we met as strangers. When we left the relay, we left as friends!
Thank you again for this wonderful experience!
Stacey Ferguson 2006 PEI WOW Team
- Good afternoon Gisele. We had a great start and a lot of fun with the arrival of the Ontario ladies for WOW Relay. I have attached a photo of our supper and speeches with Bruce Robinson the OFSC Governor for District 1 getting into the colour of the night. With some computer work we changed his shirt from OFSC white to pink to go with the pink ribbon campaign.
Thank You John Boals OFSC D1 Manager
- Hi Gisele,
Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time yesterday riding with the WOW girls! We started with them in Metcalfe and rode all the way to the turn off for Calabogie! It was great. It was very well organized and we had a rainy but GREAT day!
Thanks, Leigh & Debbie
- I would like to take this opportunity to thank you (Gisele) and Polaris for giving me the experience. It really made a difference in my life…and I would like to think it made a difference in other lives as well. During fundraising I met several other women who had been just diagnosed recently and it brightened their outlook when I could tell them that I’m a 12 year survivor. Just the thanks I got from other women were worth the work (and the fun snowmobiling).
Looking forward to next time!!!
Tracy Fortune NB WOW Team
- I want to say thank you to Polaris Industries of Canada who made it possible for all this fundraising to happen and selecting me as one of the WOW riders. Certainly, we would have been able to 'show-off' & promote the 600 Switchbacks we rode more should there have been more snow. Thank you also for the super jacket!
There were some touching moments that will remain with me for always.
Monday, tour of the Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. It brought memories of dread and fear but that soon vanished because of the wonderful healthcare individuals who work there. One of the I'm here today is because of the radiation treatments I received from that Centre.
Tuesday, when we awoke to snow in Clarenville and we were finally able to ride the sleds. While trailing along, I was so touched by the Memory Flag for my mother, Beth, who died of breast cancer when I was only 26, married for a couple of years & had our first child the next year after her passing. How I would have loved for her to have seen our 'Tina Beth'.
Friday, I will never forget those little Grade 3 children in St. George's who saved their pennies and came as a class over the hill down to the lodge towing the two wagons filled with pennies. They made us three riders feel so special during the social at the Addventure X Lodge when, in fact, they were the real special people.
Thank you again for all your input into this memorable & successful event of yet another chapter in my strive for survival of this disease and of course, my greatest wish of all, a cure!
Regards, Rosalyn Young NL WOW Team
- Dear Gisele
Just wanted to say thank you so much for the opportunity to participate with the WOW relay. Herb is one of the sweetest men I have ever met. It was truly an experience I will cherish for a lifetime.
Nadine Hendricken PEI WOW Team
- It was such a thrill to take part in the 2006 Polaris WOW Relay, and these memories will stay with me forever. We did have lots of laughs (and cries) along the way. The "WOW moment" for me was meeting a young lady in Truro, NS who is having a mastectomy on February 14th ... it certainly brought everything that we were working towards into perspective. We heard many heartwarming survivor stories along the way, and some stories which didn't have a happy ending. That just drove us to work harder.
I was very proud to be an official spokesperson for Polaris, Shell and the other sponsors ... if only for a few days .... and I will continue to promote the good work they do and the products they represent, as well as the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. We were able to meet in person the Executive Director of the CBCF Atlantic Chapter, as well as two key members of her staff, at the Sutherland's Lake breakfast. It was nice that they were able to join us for a few hours.
Gisele, I would like to sincerely thank you for the opportunity to participate in this great event. You have done a wonderful job in organizing this Relay, and I wish you continued success as it winds its way across the country. I have to say that my biggest disappointment was saying goodbye to Herb - he is a very special person, and I hope his "new lady friends" treat him well. I can think of nobody better than Herb to be associated with the 2006 Polaris WOW Relay in his capacity as Support Driver. His calm demeanor and enthusiasm for the sport of snowmobiling has endeared him to everyone I know who had the pleasure of meeting him.
Again, all the very best for continued success. I'll be excitedly following the Relay to its conclusion in White Rock, BC on March 7th as I continue to fundraise "to the end" on behalf of the CBCF.
THINK PINK ..... and THINK SNOW !!!
Kind regards, Barbara Curry Nova Scotia WOW Team

- From the entire Sledworthy team, we want to thank the 2006 NL WOW riders for their excellent job representing our spirited province.
Even though the snow didn't co-operate, you folks did a great job. We had a chance to participate in some of the St. John's activities and donate product for the Corner Brook event. The memories of meeting others as passionate about snowmobiling and working together for such a great cause is motivating, to say the least.
Warmest regards, Andrew Goldsworthy Focused Publication Inc. 709-737-6780 Publishers of Sledworthy - NL's first snowmobile publication
- I guess after all the hard work that goes into an event such as the WOW relay when it is all said and done you look back and see what everyone has accomplished is outstanding. What was most rewarding for me was to speak to the riders themselves and see the look in their eyes when the event was happening and after when I was getting my painting signed. They were just so warmed and couldn't thank you enough for what we did as a Club. Makes you feel needed. I was watching a program called Franklin, with my little girl Emma, who is 21/2 and it was about heroes. At the end it described a HERO - someone who puts others who they do not even know before themselves to ensure they are safe and looked after. I am assuming we all are heroes with this event helping people we do not even know....
