V2V, Leg 13: By Land, By Sea – and Ready for Cake!
The Chesapeake Bay? That is hardly enough to stop Victory Riders on the V2V. By land, by sea, they make the trip.
The 2008 V2V Relay neared its conclusion this week (it ends/ended July 4 in New York) with a water crossing along the route.

Eight Victorys were on the ferry headed to Annapolis, Maryland, on Wednesday, July 2, so they could take the V2V baton on Thursday morning at Chesapeake Cycles. (A tip of the helmet to the staff at Chesapeake Cycles, which provided the riders with breakfast at the dealership on Thursday morning.)

Ferry riders included Leg Captain Mark Luz and new bride and super model Kelly, and a pair of Polaris Hall of Fame dealers, John and Sue Trumbauer from Trumbauer’s Motor Sports in Quakerstown, Pennsylvania.

The Trumbauers are busy, busy dealers, yet they annually host the V2V riders as they pass through Pennsylvania and one or both of them will ride a leg or two of the relay almost every year.

Leg 13 Update
Mark Luz said before the ride that he expected 15 to 20 Victorys on Leg 13 (July 3), and those riders would have to admit great eats were part of the appeal. Consider:

• Lunch: The ride was visiting the Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, for lunch. Yum.

• Dinner: The riders were having their evening dinner at Mama Chuch’s, a legendary Mexican restaurant in Allenhurst, New Jersey.

As usual, Mark Luz arranged for Mama Chuch to offer a very special Victory menu when the V2V riders stopped by. The menu listings appear below.

UPDATE: Mark reported during Thursday’s ride: “We left Chesapeake with 14 riders; now have 19 at the brewery.”

He also sent the photo of legendary rider Dave Pearce’s bike with this caption: “Dave Pearce's 99 with 154,000 miles. We've come a long way...”

Well Done, V2V Riders
Congratulations to all of the Victory Riders who have made the 2008 V2V another great relay.

As noted on the cover of the Mama Chuch Victory menu: “Next year we ride to San Francisco… you coming?”
