The Victory Blog: High-Mileage Updates Edition
Brett Favre? No, it's Ross Thacker, looking all-too comfortable on a bike that is not his. Where's the loyalty, man?

In a recent Victory Blog, we mentioned long-riding Steve “Rollin’” Rolland of Wisconsin. Here’s an update from Iron Butt rider Rollin’:

“I'm still planning on trying the 48 state plus Alaska [Iron Butt] ride next year,” he reported. “The map is done, I even have the gas stops planned for the 880 mile-ride through Canada before the stop in Hyder, Alaska. I made some changes to the bike and I have been updating all of my riding gear.

“I have been learning a lot about western Canada and the road to Alaska. Looks like a beautiful area. I can't wait to try.”

But first, he needs to recover from a medical matter that interrupted his riding.

“I do have one more challenge. I tore a tendon in my right arm last January and I finally had the surgery done September 1. They put two titanium corkscrew anchors in the arm bone to tie the tendon down. I can't use my arm until December. I can't even bend the fingers on my right hand yet. I'll still have he rest of the winter to try to get some strength back in my arm.

“I guess I do like a challenge but damn! I'm going to keep planning the ride and hopefully I'll be trying it next summer.”

He said he attended Sturgis 2009 and checked out the new Victory Cross Country and Cross Roads.

“I enjoyed my trip to the Rally. I sat on the new bikes a lot. They are nice!”

The Sturgis visit was probably part of the trip he took with his wife to Utah – in a four-wheeler.

“I had planned to ride to North Carolina with my wife this past summer but because of my arm we had to cancel that trip,” Steve said. “Instead we did a trip to Moab, Utah, with my wife's Wrangler. Moab is one of our favorite places. If you're ever looking for a place to ride to, I highly recommend Moab. A different kind of trip. This was fun.”

Ross Nears 100,000 Miles
Another recent Victory Blog noted that Sydney “FishWitch” Sheppard has more than 127,000 miles on her 2005 50th Anniversary Kingpin. We asked for updates from Victory Riders who might be approaching the 100,000-mile mark on their Victorys, and we heard from the Mountain Man, Ross Thacker of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

We had wondered in the blog if Ross had to start counting his miles from 0 since he got his Touring Cruiser painted and it was like a new bike. He protested this idea.

“92,500 miles of smiles,” Ross reported, which says he considers the “new” red bike the same vehicle as the previously black Touring Cruiser he was riding. That seems fair. After all, the bike still has its handmade luggage rack (from Ross’s Welding & Supply) and its signature accessory, its custom seat (from Ross’s House of Custom Upholstery).

Ride on, Ross.
