The Victory Blog: Will the Nun Ride Again & Quick News Hits Edition
Joe Klein at Bonneville.

Who’s the most famous fashion leader you know?

Maybe it’s your wife, who tells you “you cannot wear that shirt for the fourth day in a row!” Or maybe the sales clerk at the mall, who asks you “are you really old enough to remember this thing called ‘black & white TV’?”

How about Donna Karan of the DKNY brand? Do you know her?

Well, Victory legend Joe Klein knew her (or at least he knew how to crash her Halloween party), so back in 2000, the dude put on a costume and rode his Victory to the party at her Manhattan store.

Turns out that Joe’s son Mark, master bike builder and former Victory and Ducati dealer, had sold Donna a motorcycle for her husband. Mark got an invite to Donna’s Halloween bash and Joe went, too.

After all, how do you turn away a religious figure at the door? You don’t, even if the religious figure is a New Jersey dude dressed in a nun’s habit.

We re-post Joe’s photo here to set the tone for the week. We need photos of you in whack costume with your Victory so we can feature some fun photos for Halloween.

Drop us a line via the Victory Mailbag.

Salt History Maker
It’s fitting that we dig up some additional historical photos of Joe Klein. Right now there’s quite a bit of buzz about Victory Rider Gregor Moe having set a speed record in his class aboard a Kingpin at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Well, the first Victory ever to post a speed in the Salt Flats record books was piloted by none other than Joe Klein. The year was 2002, and Joe put a SportCruiser in the books at Bonneville. He had also hoped to ride his legendary “Rock to Rock” bike (KYSO Blue V92C, No. 30) on the salt, but his tires didn’t comply with sanctioning body’s safety specs.

The numbered bike – which he’s still riding – was the one he rode from New York City to San Francisco in 1998, which made him the first Victory Rider to ride all the way across the United States.

To be honest, the bike is in no shape for the salt these days. Oh, it still runs fine, but its work-in-progress “Back Porch” doesn’t lend itself to aerodynamic performance. Wow, Joe, just Wow!
