A Victory Blog that ran during the weekend had one mention of an incorrect date for the VRA Party at Sturgis. So, let’s make sure it is clear and correct:

The VRA Party at Sturgis is August 8.

Remembering Dad
Father’s Day is this coming Sunday. One of our earliest memories of Victory Riders was getting a letter from Mark Luz, who was then riding a ’99 V92C – No. 124, no less.

Luzzy’s letter, written in 2001, was turned into an article in Polaris ESCAPE magazine. We didn’t edit the letter, we just ran it with a headline “In His Own Words” because Luzzy’s words so eloquently described how his late father, Charles Joseph “Joe” Luz, had instilled in Mark a love of bikes. The article, accompanied by a photo of Joe on his Indian motorcycle in the 1950s, read in part:

“The early spring of 2001 was difficult as my father became ill and eventually passed away on April 14th. He had been my inspiration to start riding because he had owned an Indian Chief in the 1950s and would tell me stories about that bike when I was a kid.

“I spent March and early April riding out to see him often on my Vic. He was so impressed with it and it seemed to distract him from his illness when I rode it to see him. The day he died, I rode it to the hospital… in my head it was a tribute to him and a comfort to me knowing that a piece of him made an indelible print on my life.

“I think of him often when I ride… the things he appreciated, the clean crisp air on a cool morning, the ocean and salty air as I ride down Ocean Avenue, and the beauty of the world that seems magnified 100 times on a motorcycle ride.”

Powerful words. Powerful memories. That’s a dad who greatly influenced his son.

How about you? Any motorcycle-related memories of your Dad? Any photos of you, your dad and a motorcycle or a would-be motorcycle (maybe your Schwinn Sting-Ray or Orange Krate)?

If so, we would love to share them with your fellow Victory Riders here on the Victory website.

Just send your memories of you, your dad and motorcycles, along with any photos, to The Victory Mailbag
