New Polaris 600 H.O. Engine Shows its Muscle in Dominating Victory in Oval Racing Opener

MEDINA, MN (December 9, 2005) – Polaris engines, including the impressive new 600 H.O. engine, powered Terry Wahl to two dominating victories in the oval racing season opener December 3-4 at the Canadian Power Toboggan Championships in Beausejour, Manitoba.

Wahl rode Polaris-powered race sleds to runaway wins in the two premier Pro classes – Pro Champ 440 and Pro Formula 600 – to become the early favorite to win the season’s oval racing World Championship.

“Everything that’s done in oval racing is preparation for the World Championships held in Eagle River in January, and for Terry to get out of the gate this good, this early is a huge, huge plus for us,” said Polaris Racing Manager Tom Rager, Sr. “These are brand new race sleds that Wahl Brothers have built and to go out and destroy the competition the way they did is a very good start.”

The new Polaris 600 H.O. engine, also helped Terry’s cousin, Dustin Wahl, reach the podium in Pro Formula 600. Dustin took third in Pro Formula 600 and fourth in Pro Champ 440.

“Beausejour is an extremely tough race to win,” said Rager. “That’s a big, big track, so to see a brand new sled come out and dominate the 440 Champ class was a very, very good thing for us as we get closer to the World Championship. Terry ran away from the competition. They weren’t even close.”

How dominant was he? SnowWeek.com described the racing this way: “In Pro Champ action, two words can wrap up the entire weekend: Terry Wahl.”

600 HO Power in Consumer Models
Recreational snowmobilers can experience this same high-output power of the Polaris Liberty 600 HO engine in three 2006 models: the 600 HO Fusion, 600 HO SwitchBack and 600 HO RMK. Compared to earlier 600s, the 600 HO produces 19% more horsepower at 6000 RPMs and 9% more at its peak, where it clearly outperforms competitive 600s. This new engine is a 2-stroke twin with Mikuni TM38 flatslide carburetors, high-flow intake and efficient, high-performance “W” reeds. Solenoid-controlled exhaust valves optimize the exhaust flow for maximum power at every throttle setting.

The Liberty 600 HO is 15% cleaner than the industry baseline and is EPA-compliant. It’s also the new performance leader in the performance-minded 600 class.
