In the Pro Open final, DJ Eckstrom (AMSOIL/Red Bull/US Air Force) exploded off the start line and was able to avoid any incidents in the first turn where he slotted into the 3rd position behind Malinoski and Shaun Crapo. On lap fifteen of the 16 lap final Crapo gave up 1st place when he broke down allowing Eckstrom to move up to 2nd behind Malinoski. At the checkered flag Eckstrom finished a strong 2nd putting him on the podium and giving him some much needed help in the points chase. Levi LaVallee (TEAM Industries Racing) finished in 4th place with TJ Gulla (TEAM Industries Racing) in 8th place and Ross Martin (Judnick Motorsports/DuPont) finishing 10th. Mike Schultz (Avalanche Racing) came into the final as the #1 qualifier.
In Pro Stock it was all about Ross Martin as Ross qualified first for the final with his 2nd, 2nd, and 1st. Ross rocketed off the start line and launched his Polaris Open sled into the lead thanks to the power of the 600 HO Liberty motor. Martin did get passed by Shaun Crapo halfway through the race but held on for 2nd place and a trip to the podium. Ross also managed to accrue enough points in qualifying and the final to put him back into the lead in the points chase for Pro Stock where he leads by two points over Robbie Malinoski. Martin also has the lead in the Pro Open season points by a margin of five points over Robbie Malinoski.
Robert Graeber, aboard his Polaris 44 IQ race sled, once again won the Sport Stock class. Mike Bell finished in 4th place with Ryan Carey in 6th place.
The next WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour event is a one day event at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI on March 4th. This is a “can’t miss” event with the Pro Stock and Open points so close. Every heat race is so important as the racers accumulate points in their qualifying rounds as well as the final. Qualifying rounds are during the day with the finals under the lights from 7:00PM to 10:00PM. For ticket information, visit www.wpsaracing.com. We hope to see you there.
