WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour West Yellowstone Snow Blast
Results
Pro Open qualifying went well for Polaris racers with TJ Gulla (TEAM Industries Racing), who has been struggling quite a bit this year, having a great day as he qualified 1st for the final with his 1st, 2nd & 1st. Also Ross Martin (Judnick Motorsports/DuPont) qualified 2nd for the final with his 2nd, 2nd & 1st place finishes. Levi LaVallee (TEAM Industries Racing) qualified 10th in the final. Mike Schultz (Avalanche Racing) came into the final through the Last Chance Qualifier as did DJ Eckstrom (AMSOIL/Red Bull/Us Air force).
Levi, aboard his IQ Open sled powered by the Liberty 600HO engine package, launched off the start line and slid into 3rd. There was a huge pile up on the first turn from about 7th back. The sleds were untangled and sent on their way before the leader came around so no red flag was thrown. DJ Eckstrom managed to just miss getting involved in the pileup. Ross Martin did get tangled up in the mess as did TJ Gulla who could not go one. Ross completed his first lap in last place. He had some time to make up to recapture some of the precious points he needed to stay in the hunt for the championship. In the meantime Levi continued closing on Dave Allard in front of him and by lap six he got by him putting LaVallee in 2nd behind Shaun Crapo. At the checkered Levi LaVallee finished in 2nd place to put himself on the podium. Mike Schultz finished 6th, Eckstrom in 8th and Ross Martin in 11th. Martin still trails Malinoski in the Season Points Title chase in Pro Open by 9 points.
In Pro Stock Ross Martin was the #1 qualifier going to the final with TJ Gulla the #2 qualifier. DJ Eckstrom, Levi LaVallee and Mike Schultz qualified 6th, 7th and 9th respectively. Matt Judnick (Judnick Motorsports/DuPont) made it through the last chance qualifier. However, at the checkered there would be no trip to the podium for Polaris this weekend in Pro Stock. DJ Eckstrom finished 6th, Ross Martin 7th, Levi LaVallee 9th, TJ Gulla 11th, Matt Judnick 12th and Mike Schultz 14th. Ross Martin sits 7 points behind Robbie Malinoski in Pro Stock Points.
#184 Robert Graeber (Boss Racing) captured wins in both Sport Stock and Sport Open aboard his IQ 440 and 600 mod. Also making a trip to the podium in Sport Open was the #388 Mike Bell (Avalanche Racing) who took 2nd. Other notable finishes were James Johnstad in 2nd place in Jr. 10-13, Isaac Sherbine won the Jr. 16-17 class and Terry Steadman taking 3rd in Pro Women.
Well we’ve reached the final race of the season. The last stop on the WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour is the Nielsen Grand Finale at the Grand Geneva Resort and Spa in Lake Geneva, WI, March 17-19, 2006. With the points so close in both pro classes every single heat race is so important as well as the final. This event is definitely not to be missed. Lake Geneva’s track is the favorite amongst almost all of the racers. The racing is guaranteed to be exciting and we hope to see everyone there. For ticket information visit www.wpsaracing.com.
