The eighth round of the WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour took place inside the stadium at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI. This was a one day event with qualifying during the day and finals from 7:00PM to 10:00PM.
In Pro Open Levi LaVallee (TEAM Industries Racing) was the #4 qualifier going into the final with a 2nd, 1st and 3rd. Ross Martin (Judnick Motorsports/DuPont) qualified 6th with TJ Gulla (TEAM Industries Racing) qualifying 7th and DJ Eckstrom (AMSOIL, Red Bull, US Air Force) 8th. In the final Levi got an awesome holeshot grabbing the lead and never looked back. He led all 24 laps. Ross Martin was in second behind LaVallee with Eckstrom in 3rd until a mechanical on Martin’s sled put him out of the race on lap six. Eckstrom was eventually passed by Malinoski and Taylor. At the checkered flag LaVallee takes the win with Malinoski in 2nd and Taylor in 3rd. Eckstrom finished in 4th place. Ross Martin also lost his lead in the Pro Open Season Points chase to Malinoski due to the 2nd place finish of Malinoski and the mechanical on Martin’s sled giving him a 14th place finish. Martin remains 9 points out of 1st place. Dave Allard is 16 points behind Martin and Eckstrom only 20 behind Martin.
In the Pro Stock final Ross Martin got a great start off the line slotting in third behind Malinoski and S. Crapo. Martin held off Blair Morgan who had worked his way up from a seventh place start to fourth. The order at the checkered flag was Malinoski, S. Crapo and Martin. With Malinoski taking the win and qualifying 2nd and Ross 5th, Malinoski was able to pass Ross in the Season Points chase in Pro Stock. Martin now trails by 5 points behind Malinoski. Shaun Crapo sits in 3rd place 21 points behind Martin.
Andrew Johnstad (Hentges Racing) went home with 2nd place in Semi-Pro Open. Mike Bell (Avalanche Racing) took home the win in Sport Open with Matt Bristow in 4th place. Robert Graeber (Boss Racing) won the Sport Stock final aboard his 2006 440 IQ.
Round 9 of the WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour takes place out in West Yellowstone March 11th & 12th. This is an extremely critical race for the points chasers as this race present some challenges with the elevation and the pressure of the second to last race of the season for those chasing a championship.
