WPSA Grand Prix de Valcourt National
Results
Extreme conditions greeted the racers on Friday at Valcourt where rain turned to snow and temperatures plummeted by 35 degrees later in the day with winds howling around 60 mph. Saturday was brutally cold with temperatures no higher than 5 degrees and winds at a steady 25 mph.
In Pro Stock DJ Eckstrom (AMSOIL/Red Bull/US Air Force) qualified 5th for the final with Mike Schultz (Avalanche Racing) qualifying 4th. Eckstrom came out of the first turn off the start line slotting into 3rd place behind Malinoski and Morgan. Throughout the 12 lap final Eckstrom held onto 3rd to get on the podium for Polaris.
In Pro Open Ross Martin (Judnick Motorsports/DuPont) was the #3 qualifier in the final with Eckstrom qualifying 5th and TJ Gulla (TEAM Industries Racing) 6th. From the start Martin launched into 2nd behind Morgan with Allard in 3rd. The order remained the same throughout the 20 lap final with Morgan taking the win, Ross Martin in 2nd and Dave Allard in 3rd.
Brett Bender (TEAM Industries Racing) was on the podium with a 2nd place finish in Semi-Pro Open. Bender also finished in 5th place in Semi-Pro Stock.
Ross Martin now leads the Pro Open points race with 331 points, a 34 point lead over Robbie Malinoski in 2nd. DJ Eckstrom remains in 4th at 287 points. In the Pro Stock points race, Ross dropped back to 3rd place with 275 points but is only 5 points behind leader Robbie Malinoski. Kurtis Crapo sits in 2nd with 276 points. It is still a very tight race in Pro Stock for the year-end Championship.
The next event on the WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour is at the Goldeyes Baseball Club at Can West Global Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 25th & 26th. At the Grand Prix de Valcourt in Valcourt, Quebec
At last season’s race DJ Eckstrom won the Pro Open class with Ross Martin winning both Semi-Pro classes. At days end, Polaris won three of four finals right in Ski-Doo’s backyard… nuff said!
This race takes place at the famous Grand Prix De Valcourt where snocross and oval racing switch back and forth in the schedule on Saturday Sunday. The action is non-stop both days.
Racing begins at 9:30 both days.
