Once again the powerful 600 HO Liberty powered open sleds showed their dominance as Ross Martin (Judnick/DuPont/Polaris), TJ Gulla (TEAM) and Mike Schultz (Avalanche Racing) went 1, 2, 3 for the sweep in Pro Open. Martin led from the start holding off Schultz and Gulla for the win. Gulla came from mid pack to take 2nd in the 20 lap final. Schultz had to come from the 10 lap LCQ to start in the back row of the final. Schultz was in 2nd for most of the race until Gulla finally worked by him on the 14th lap but Gulla didn’t have to run the extra ten laps of the LCQ like Schultz did. Mike Schultz had the fastest lap time of the race at 42.288 seconds in the Pro Open final.
In Pro Stock Ross Martin launched off the start landing in 3rd place behind Taylor and Steve Martin. DJ Eckstrom (AMSOIL/Red Bull/ US Air Force) was right behind Ross. Ross Martin worked his way past Taylor into 2nd place on the second lap with Eckstrom in tow. By the eighth lap of the 12 lap final, Ross Martin passed Steve Martin for the lead with Eckstrom still in 3rd. At the checkered it was Ross Martin taking the win with Steve Martin in 2nd and DJ Eckstrom in 3rd. Levi LaVallee was 5th and TJ Gulla 6th.
Kyle Strandlund took 2nd in the Semi-Pro Stock class aboard his 2006 440 IQ. Robert Graeber took 2nd and 3rd in Sport Stock and Sport Open respectively. Mike Bell was 2nd in Sport Open.
Ross Martin now holds a 15 point lead over Dave Allard and DJ Eckstrom in the Pro Open Points Standings with 163 points. Dave Allard and DJ Eckstrom are both tied at 148 points after the first three races. Levi LaVallee sits in 3rd in Pro Stock Points just five points behind Kurtis Crapo and Mathieu Morin. DJ Eckstrom is only 7 points out of first. The Pro Stock class is very tight at the top making each race very critical for the championship. Dylan Martin is in 2nd place in Semi-Pro Open points standings.
The next stop on the WPSA Snowmobile PowerSports Tour is the Polaris Park-X National at Park-X in Hill City, MN on January 21-22, 2006. This is the final tune-up before the Winter X-Games in Aspen, CO. Come and witness the awesome winning power of the Polaris race sleds for yourself. For more information visit www.wpsaracing.com.
