Jimmy Howard: Saving the Day & Making an Impression With His RANGER
Jimmy Howard uses his RANGER to save the day and tow a disabled ATV [meow] out of the woods.
Jimmy Howard and his RANGER 4x4 have made believers out of members of his family, such as his nephew Darren Howard. Darren was among the hunting party on the night Darren’s father took a deer that had to be retrieved from some deep Tennessee woods. Darren’s ATV broke down – he should have been riding a Polaris! – and that’s when Uncle Jimmy came to rescue with his RANGER.

Instead of being stuck deep in the woods in the dead of night with a dead deer and dead ATV, Jimmy and his RANGER made the necessary trips to haul the cargo back to the main road, where the party’s trucks were parked.

Jimmy is obviously a full-on Tennessee hunting and outdoors enthusiast – meaning the RANGER is the perfect vehicle for him. His e-mail address, for instance, starts with “jimmytndeer@...”

It’s best to hear the story of the hunting outing from one who was there – and who was mightily impressed by the power and versatility of the RANGER.

SOME BACKGROUND ON JIMMY
“My name is Darren Howard and I am not a RANGER owner. However, my uncle Jimmy owns a 2003 RANGER 4x4 so I've been around one plenty. I'm sending this information on his behalf.

“His name is Jimmy Howard and he is a retired Linesman with The Tennessee Valley Electric Cooperative and he is 61 years old. We live in Savannah Tennessee. The RANGER was purchased [at T&R Polaris] in Corinth, Mississippi.

“The RANGER has the Pure Polaris solid glass windshield, camo soft cab and a bikini top for the summer… There has also been a set of driving lights mounted on the top of the windshield for better visibility. On the inside of the cab, a small interior light and windshield defroster have been installed. Also, under the hood he has mounted a horn. Around the cargo box he has made some side boards for extra height. The last and final thing added is the back-up light under the cargo box for visibility at night with in reverse.

“The reason I'm sending this on Jimmy's behalf is because the story kind of involves me as well as him and his RANGER. We are members of Twin Creeks Hunting Club in Savannah, Tennessee, and have been for many years. On any given weekend during gun season for whitetail deer you will find my brother, father, Uncle Jimmy and myself out there deer hunting.”

LAST DAY SUCCESS, THEN TROUBLE…
“On the last day of the 2005 season at dusk my father shot an 8-point buck that ran about 175 yards in a dense pine thicket. My father and brother had been hunting within a safe distance so my brother got to my father before I could to begin searching for the deer. As I was riding down to the stand that the deer was harvested from, they called me on the radio to let me know that they had located the deer and to bring the four-wheeler to haul him out of the woods.

“I was riding a 1996 Arctic Cat 454 4x4 at the time... So I began weaving around the trees and running over some brush to get to the downed deer, which had ended up in the bottom of a hollow. Once I reached my brother and father, we loaded the deer on the front rack of the four-wheeler as we have numerous times before and I began backtracking my way out of the woods.

“Once I got to the top of the ridge out of the hollow, the right front A-arm on my four-wheeler broke. There we were in the middle of the woods at night with a four-wheeler that was now immobilized.

“By this time, Jimmy had made it to us in his RANGER and discovered our predicament. So we journeyed back to the trucks and hooked the trailer that I hauled my four-wheeler on… to the RANGER. We traveled back to the woods. I rode with Jimmy and had to get out with a chain saw and cut some trees so the RANGER and trailer could get down to the four wheeler.”

RANGER TO THE RESCUE
“He backed the trailer up to the ATV and we hooked my dad’s winch cable off his four-wheeler and winched the ATV right up on the trailer. Now we were loaded and ready to roll! Jimmy put the RANGER in all wheel drive [AWD] and low range and we headed out of the woods.

“This RANGER was pulling a trailer with a four-wheeler loaded on it with no problem! He had plenty of power in reserve. I was simply amazed by the ability of the Polaris RANGER.

“We got it back to the truck and hooked the trailer back to my truck. Ever since then, my father has had his mind set on getting a Polaris RANGER himself.

“We've put Jimmy's RANGER to the test many times and it has never failed. I was skeptical at first when he purchased it, but now I have been impressed with its versatility. They are good, sound machines that are hard to beat!”
