How do you ride ATVs and side-by-sides in the middle of a city – especially as populated a city as Las Vegas?
Just ask Polaris! For its Model Year 2009 Dealer Meeting, Polaris created a ride site in a parking lot in Las Vegas. The track was created on a parking lot adjacent to the Orleans arena.
So how do you turn a concrete jungle into an ATV and side-by-side paradise? Here are some stats on the ingredients Polaris and its Way Out Training Tour team used to pull it off:
• 5,000 square yards of dirt – or 416 dump truck loads • 300 square yards of rocks – or 22 dump truck loads • 1,024 straw bales • Ninety 3,000-lb. concrete blocks • 3 flatbed loads of logs • 3 Water trucks • 5 Skid-steers • 2 pay loaders • 1 Tractor with a three-point blade • 1 mini-excavator • 100 demo site employees
The track featured six separate trails expertly constructed on the 700x300 foot lot with four tunnels/bridges. Seventy-two vehicles were used to highlight the superior ride, handling and acceleration characteristics of six new Polaris models, and the track could handle 1,000 rides an hour.
With an average daily air temp of 105 F and pavement temperatures of more than 120 F, ride site workers consumed more than a quart of water an hour and rotated jobs to stay cool.
To beat the heat, dealers were staged in air-conditioned comfort inside the Orleans arena. Each dealer’s rides on all the vehicles combined took 30 minutes or less. While it took nine days to set the site up, tear down was done in less than eight hours.
