Daryl Rath showed he was hard at work dialing in his Sportsman 850 XP with EPS during the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) summer break by taking third in the 4x4 Open class at Unadilla Valley Sports Center in New Berlin, New York. The event, which was Round 10 of the GNCC schedule, was held September 12-13.
The strong finish puts Rath second in class points, just 21 out of first with three races to go this season.
Starting on the far outside, Rath’s line to the first turn was troublesome and he was back around eighth place shortly into the first lap. But he worked his way through the pack to take the lead. He ran up front throughout the race, which featured several lead changes among the top riders. In the end, he couldn’t regain the lead and came home third in a tightly bunched finish.
”We have been dialing and testing this bike all season and this race proved we are definitely headed in the right direction,” he said afterward. “I am not finished yet as I am excited to continue dialing this bike in as I work toward my personal goal of putting this Polaris Sportsman 850 XP on top. This was one of the closest Utility races of the season and I think I can say we all had the best time battling it out on that track.”
Rath Racing’s newest team member Lynn Sather had a successful début with the team, finishing fourth in the 4x4 Open class on his Sportsman 850 XP with EPS.
“Rath continues to make great strides during the Sportsman 850’s inaugural race year,” said Eric Nault, race team manager for Polaris. “We look forward to a strong finish to the 2009 GNCC race year.”
The next GNCC Race is the Moose Yadkin Valley Stomp, in Yadkinville, N.C., September 26-27.
