The Polaris/Lone Star/Eichner Racing Team put the outstanding performance of the high-powered Polaris Outlaws to good use and earned multiple class victories at Round 1 of the ITP Quadcross. The event was held March 8-9, 2008, at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California.
Doug Eichner rode his Outlaw 525 S to a clear-cut victory in the Pro Open class. He grabbed the holeshot in both motos and outran the field of 20 fellow Pros to claim the class victory.
Eichner’s Outlaw is built to win. Its power is enhanced by Yoshimura R&D of America Inc., the suspension features FOX Racing Shox and A-Arms and steering stems by Lone Star Racing.
Eichner made his victory look effortless and was only a few seconds off the winning pace of the AMA GNC motocross racers who shared the race venue with the ITP Quadcross Series competitors on the weekend.
In a post-race interview, Eichner gave thanks to Polaris and his mechanic Scott Butler from Lone Star Racing. He also noted that for the first time in more than a decade he has chosen a new tire for competition. He said his new MAXXIS Tires delivered greater hook-up for the concrete start and better stability over the entire track.
In the 450 Pro Class, Polaris racer John Shafe overcame two rough starts to earn a top-10 finish for the day.
In Moto 1, Shafe found himself dead last as the field of 27 pros rounded the first corner. He worked his way through the pack on his Polaris Outlaw 450 and finished an impressive fifth. At the end of the day, he stood eighth in the class, which was a significant achievement considering his poor starts.
In the Women’s Division, Angela Butler once again showed her talent and won both Motos on her Outlaw 450. Butler, who has won nine Women’s National Championships, mastered the demanding Glen Helen track on her stock-engined Outlaw 450.
The next stop for the Polaris/Lone Star Racing/Eichner Racing Team will be at the WORCS Round 3, in Havasu City, Arizona, on March 21-23.
