Doug Eichner rode an Outlaw 525 to first place in the Pro ATV class at Los Olivos, California, on May 13, giving Polaris its first-ever Pro-class victory on the WORCS Racing Series.
It was the El Cajon, California, racer’s second event on the Outlaw 525 this season and he rode to a close but sure victory over series points leader Josh Frederick. The victory boosted Eichner to third in the Pro ATV standings with 71 points, just five behind the second-place racer.
Eichner got off to a strong start at the Los Olivos race and ran in second place for the first three laps before passing early leader Jeremy Schell and leading the final eight laps. Eichner ran consistently fast laps and eased off the throttle near the end to secure the victory by about 4 seconds ahead of the hard-charging Frederick. Those two finished over 2:30 ahead of the third-place finisher.
“This is a great day, not only for me and getting my first win for 2007, but giving the factory Polaris team its very first Pro event win,” Eichner told the WORCS website staff. “Those guys have been behind me all year along with my mechanic Leonard Duncan, the Duncan crew and the FOX shocks boys who came out today to help and watch. I'm very happy today.”
Eichner won the points title last season, so he runs the No. 1 plate on his ATV. He started the season on a Honda but switch to Polaris to compete on the Outlaw 525, which features Polaris independent rear suspension. In his first race on the Outlaw 525, he finished second, so he has earned podium places in both events on the Polaris ATV.
Eichner also took first in Pro-Production ATV at Los Olivos. He grabbed the Pro-Production ATV holeshot and led all six laps, setting the fast-lap time with an 8:14.6 on the second lap and winning by more than 39 seconds.
He finished eighth in Open Pro ATV.
