ATV racing legend Doug Eichner was a busy – and winning – racer on Saturday, November 8, 2008. He and his Polaris/Lone Star/Eichner Racing Team started his day by winning the Pro class at the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix, and as night fell, he found himself revving his engine at the starting line of the Ricky Johnson Off-Road GP at the Perris Auto Speedway.
To accomplish the two-race day, Eichner received invaluable assistance from his trusted motor builder, George Fickett from Yoshimura R&D of America Inc., and his friend and pit support provider, Larry Heidler. Following the Lake Elsinore win, they packed quickly and made a dash to the Perris Auto Speedway.
The Ricky Johnson event returned Eichner to his familiar roots of the Mickey Thompson Grand Prix-style stadium racing and it was obvious Eichner was in his element. This race series appeals to all types of race enthusiasts and offers stadium-style racing for trucks, super-lights, mini-trucks, UTVs and, of course, ATVs.
With only a quick change of tires, Eichner was back aboard his same Polaris Outlaw 450 MXR on which he had clinched the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix just hours earlier.
“I haven't had the opportunity of riding my Outlaw on a track like this, but I came in from practice and could not believe how well my Outlaw handled with very few adjustments," Eichner said.
The Outlaw only needed a polish and it was ready for business, looking fierce under the stadium lights. Eichner dominated the racing, winning both his heat race and Pro Main Event.
The Ricky Johnson Off-Road GP is currently scheduled to air on Versus TV early in 2009. Fueled by the enthusiasm from racers and spectators alike, series promoters are hoping to run an eight-race stadium series in 2009.
