When the RANGER XP debuted as a limited edition off-road vehicle last year, it was the first of its kind to deliver Xtreme Off-Road Performance. Any question about riders’ appetite for this kind of power faded when off-road enthusiasts quickly acquired the fun, powerful, workhorse machines.
With a 700cc, twin cylinder engine and the industry’s first electronic fuel injection system in a utility vehicle, RANGER XP established a new industry best in performance, response and smooth ride. It delivers a unique, high-performance ride characterized by these results:
• 44 mph top speed
• 29 percent more acceleration than RANGER 4x4
• Class leading payload of 1,500 lbs.
• Highest towing capacity at 1,750 lbs.
• 150 percent more covered storage
• Superior power and starting with anywhere, anytime capability
• Automatic power compensation for heat, cold, humidity and altitude
Sports and recreation, farm, hunting and utility buyers responded with enthusiasm to the limited edition RANGER XP, with orders dramatically exceeding supply. In response to this clear message from customers, Polaris is making the RANGER XP available in the full 2006 RANGER product line.
The 2006 RANGER XP will retain all of the key components that were so convincing to Limited Edition buyers. At the core of the RANGER XP is a 40 horsepower, liquid-cooled, even-firing Polaris Liberty™ 700cc parallel-twin engine.
Polaris paired this engine with a Bosch® multi-port, semi-sequential electronic fuel injection system (EFI). The pairing makes the RANGER XP responsive and reliable in the type of rugged, off-road terrain that demands sudden and extreme changes in both power requirements and variations in speed. A Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) in the EFI system ensures the engine delivers extremely precise driver response.
When RANGER XP encounters extreme conditions, the EFI system constantly and automatically compensates for changes in altitude, pressure and temperature, making the RANGER extremely reliable no matter where the rider chooses to go. The system ensures the RANGER XP engine starts instantly in all conditions from –25 degrees F to 120 degrees F at altitudes up to 10,000 feet.
The straightforward diagnostics offered by the EFI system benefit both the rider and the dealer who maintains the vehicle. Using EFI diagnostic tools, the Polaris dealer can acquire information about the entire fuel system and quickly identify any component needing repair.
RANGER XP comes with an exclusive Polaris Lock & Ride™ cargo system to easily carry and organize equipment, gear and loose material.
This system combines a redesigned, multi-functional cargo box and a full range of PURE Polaris accessories that attach in less than ten seconds. The cargo box is big enough to hold a standard pallet, has drain holes for wet material and comes standard with a pickup truck style tailgate and self-cleaning hinge for dumping loose materials.
RANGER XP gives the driver three options for maneuvering in tight spots. An automatic 4-wheel drive will respond to any terrain, and the driver can easily switch from this to 2-wheel or 1-wheel drive to produce an extremely tight turn or minimize damage to sensitive turf and ground coverings.
Polaris also is offering more limited edition versions in 2006, delivering the RANGER XP in a painted Solar Red and Mossy Oak New Break Up Camouflage Pattern.
