Mike Island #98 Returns to Polaris, Canada and the CSRA

MEDINA, MN (October 2, 2006) – Michael Island, an independent racer, makes a return to Polaris and running a full season with the Canadian Snowcross Racing Association (CSRA) in Canada. Island, the Winter X-Games Gold Medalist in 2004, also plans to race at select WPSA National races including the season opener in Duluth MN.

Island will be supported by the Royal Distributing/Bourque’s Polaris SnoCross Racing Team located in Cochrane, Ontario and run by Gerry Bourque of Bourque’s Auto who also owns a Polaris dealership and Royal Distributing’s John Mochrie.

“I am extremely happy to have Mike back on Polaris”, stated, Tom Rager, Polaris Snowmobile Racing Manager. Rager added, “I am thrilled about going into the CSRA and I know that Mike can bring home the CSRA Pro Championships for Polaris”

“I’m pretty excited about being back on Polaris sleds. Polaris turned some heads for sure last year and had some pretty impressive lap times last season” said Island. Island added, “I am happy to be back racing in Canada and near my family and friends. My goal is to stay healthy and have fun and with that will come the wins”.

Mike Island will attempt to qualify for the 2007 Winter X-Games at both the Duluth, MN and Gaylord, MI races and plans on attending the WPSA Lake Geneva, WI race as well.

Also racing for Royal Distributing/Bourque’s Polaris SnoCross Racing Team is Gerry Bourque’s son, 14 year old, Dave Joanis. Dave will race in the Sport division as well as Semi-Pro Stock at CSRA and the Jr. 14-15 class at the WPSA Nationals. Dave won the Jr. 14-15 year old division last season and was named Most Outstanding Junior Racer at CSRA. Dave is also last season’s WPSA Amsoil Duluth National Junior 10-13 winner.

“I plan on learning as much as I can from Mike like improving my riding style and choosing lines. My goal is to go out and win the Sport classes and podium in the Semi-Pro Stock class at CSRA” said Dave Joanis.

Look for both Mike and Dave to be signing autographs at the Toronto International Snowmobile Show October 20-22nd.
