William Yokley Wins UTV Opener in RANGER RZR; Frank Batista Places on Sportsman XP

Polaris was on the gas at the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) circuit’s April 4-5 race at “The Big Buck” in Union, South Carolina.

Although it was the fourth GNCC event of the 2009 season, it was the first time the UTVs had raced this year, and Polaris racer William Yokley got off to a great start in defending his 2008 Side-by-Side championship.

Yokley, the reigning Side-by-Side points champ, opened the 2009 GNCC race season with an Open Modified class victory in his Polaris/National Guard/Yokley Racing RANGER RZR at “The Big Buck.”

Polaris RANGER RZR racers crowded the results list in Open Modified. Along with Yokley’s win, Justin Fleming finished second and Dave Ecker, Eric Conner and Scott Kiger finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively. Since it was the first UTV race of the season, each racer’s finishing spot represents his current position in the points standings.

In the Open Limited UTV class, Robby Ayersman finished second at Big Buck, Blake Yuris finished third, Justin Kipp was fourth and Jason Taylor was fifth.

Another Polaris winner on the weekend was Michael S. Sioka of Masontown, Pennsylvania, who won the Sportsman A/B class by a 9-minute margin in the five-lap race.

Frank Batista of Riverdale, California, piloted his Polaris/Rath Racing Sportsman 850 XP EPS to a third-place finish in the 4x4 Open class, and Daryl Rath of Hutchinson, Minnesota, finished fourth. Rath in currently third in4x4 Open points and Batista is fifth.

Among other Polaris racers at the event:

• In 4x4 Limited (ATV), Cody Anderson finished sixth at Big Buck and is now fifth in points.

• In XC2 Pro Am, Kevin Yoho of Hopedale, Ohio, finished fifth and Jeremy D. Rice of Fombell, Pennsylvania, finished sixth.

• In 4x4 Lites, Daniel Storm finished third and is now fifth in class points.

• In Super Senior (50+), John Gallagher of Aurora, Ohio, finished fourth. He has two thirds and two fourths this season and is third in class points, just three points out of second.

• In the First Year Racer (16-24) class, Bobby M. Clark of Aiken, South Carolina, finished third, and in the First Year Racer (25+) class, Ricky Lancy of Pageland, South Carolina, finished fourth.

The next GNCC race – the fifth of 13 rounds on the 2009 schedule – will be the Acerbis Loretta Lynn race, April 18-19, in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.
